Dan Kanter
President

Dan Kanter has served as President since he and his partners acquired Monroe in 2003. He also serves as a portfolio manager for Monroe’s asset manager affiliate, Siena Capital Partners. Prior to joining Monroe, Dan spent seven years investing in privately-held businesses with Ravenswood Capital, a private equity firm he founded. Dan began his career as an attorney at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw representing clients in securities transactions and mergers and acquisitions.
Dan earned a J.D. from Northwestern University and a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1992 and a B.A. from University of California at Berkeley in 1987.
Greg Dingens

Greg Dingens has over 25 years of investment banking experience. Before joining Monroe in 2006, he was Managing Director at Lehman Brothers. Prior to Lehman Brothers, he was at Merrill Lynch for 10 years where he was Managing Director and head of the M&A office in Chicago. He was also an associate and analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston.
Greg earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1992 and a B.A. from The University of Notre Dame in 1986, where he was a three-time Academic All-American football player.
W. Gray Medlin

Gray Medlin leads the firm’s San Francisco office. Prior to joining the firm, Gray founded Carson Medlin and served as that firm’s Chairman for twenty years. Before founding Carson Medlin, he was vice president of corporate finance for a regional investment banking firm. He began his corporate finance career handling corporate restructurings and private financings for a European-owned manufacturer.
Gray earned a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Paula S. Johannsen, CFA

Paula Johannsen leads the firm’s Tampa office. Prior to joining Monroe, Paula was a Managing Director of The Carson Medlin Company for eighteen years. Before joining Carson Medlin, she was a senior appraiser for a business valuation firm, appraising closely-held businesses. Paula began her career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta as a commercial bank examiner. She continued her work with financial institutions as an equity analyst covering banking for a regional investment banking firm.
Paula is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she received a B.S. degree in business administration. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has been designated an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) in business valuations by the American Society of Appraisers.
Steven E. Huntington

Steve Huntington leads the firm’s Raleigh office. Immediately prior to joining the firm, Steve was a Vice President in investment banking with Carson Medlin for eleven years.
Steve earned a BS degree in business administration from Wake Forest University.
Craig Carlino

Craig Carlino has served as Chief Compliance Officer since joining the firm in 2002. Craig also serves as the Relationship Manager for Monroe’s trading desk customers. Prior to joining Monroe, Craig worked as a Corporate Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 7 years.
Craig earned a M.B.A. in finance and accounting as well as a B.S. from the University of Buffalo.
Mike Shea

Steven Schroeder, CFA

Steven Schroeder joined Monroe’s institutional sales team in 2005. He interacts with bank management teams and investors across the country. Prior to joining Monroe, Steven managed a middle market commercial loan portfolio for Merrill Lynch Business Financial Services. His previous experience also includes work on the options trading floor of CBOE and CME as well as in private client wealth management with A.G. Edwards in St. Louis.
